Music anyone?

Listening to and selecting good music for breathwork can be immensely rewarding in itself. The more ideas and options we have opens up a wider universe of sounds and experiences. Towards this goal I started Music for Breathwork to share ideas and add to the wealth of possibilities. While it would be nice to upload our favorite selections, for now that option is not available because of copyrights and disk space. It is, however, helpful when referring to a particular music track or artist to be as specific as possible so others can find it on a download service (i.e. itunes, rhapsody, etc.) or be able to pull it off their own rack. Also, when citing a particular music piece, it would be helpful to say why or why not you like it and how it seems to work in actual practice.

A bunch of us (20 to be precise, though only a couple are members of this group) just finished the "Music and Transcendence" module. I don't have sets to share yet, but would love to hear more sets that working facilitators are using -- if that's a reasonable thing to request. Obviously there's not the reciprocity of trading sets - not sure what would make it less "one sided". I have heard a number of Glenn's (while sitting or breathing) - I particularly love the music he finds for the first hour.

I think trading actual music is great! When I first read Barbara's inquiry I read "email" and wondered how that would work. Oops.

Barbara and others, I'm game to do some set trading (music, not playlists). I could use an infusion of new options for our workshops, and I haven't had time lately to work on anything new. Bring it on!

Dear Barbara, I would be happy to send you some of my music sets.

Barbara, Are you thinking playlists or actual music?

I would be interested in trading music sets via mail with other facilitators. Anyone else interested?

I have a core HB music collection of 800 plus CD's that I'd love to see stay together as a collection for someone doing HB. Selections were purchased over the years in Europe and the USA and reflect the ability to make mixes commonly used in HB beginning with my certification in 1989. This Summer I will be breaking up the collection with local sales in my home community. If anyone in our group or anyone you know would be interested in the collection as a whole email me: telephonethomas@comcast.net or call me at 443-986-6005. Hi all,
I've added a discussion, focusing on a recent playlist. I encourage each of you listen to it if you can put it together, and then ponder, question, and comment, but in the discussion itself, and not here in the the comments. Happy listening! Oh, if you want, you may upload playlists too. Let's share the wisdom of the group and stop re-inventing the wheel.

BRAD, Thank you for this posting and link. Now, if the "brain-farts" of us 'Aging HB Folks' were reduced by Drumming, I'd keep my drum on its cradle and a beater in my hand daily... ;-)

Seriously, I am in full accord with what you have said. I particularly like the tone of my 40" Pow Wow drum, and the resonance when it is a group beat; but, I have not yet met a drum that I did not like, from my surf drum with beebees rolling over its surface; to my tense ceramic mounted skins; to my Tibetian Damarus to the Grandfather POW WOW drum; and all the others.

'EveryDrum' is a personal portal vibration that let's me tune down all the other sounds that we all ways live with...(there is no silence, only one sound or the other and inescapably a drone of all of them) so I choose to accentuate the drum sound over the others often as a focal point to minimize the others and let my mind and heart go to the places that it has been yearning for...albeit the appetite of my unconscious and or collective unconscious begging for attention and opportunity. Words just don't work sometimes. Thomas Merton Brightman

Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead became a noted amateur global anthropologist on drumming.
"Long a social activist, Mickey appeared in August, 1991 before the U.S. Senate Committee on Aging, speaking on the healing value of drumming and rhythm on afflictions associated with aging. Since joining the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function at Beth Abraham Hospital in 2000, Mickey is continuing his investigation into the connection between healing and rhythm, and the neural bases of rhythm." from his bio

This certainly brings credibility. Didn't know till doing a bit of online research this weekend that Mickey Hart is associated with a formal institute.

There is a strategic need for HB, with Stan Grof's credentials, MD PhD, to associate AHBI with such institutions for long term further credibility.
